Apple is working on a "jumbo" foldable iPad, which is scheduled to be released around 2028

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a "jumboum" foldable iPad that is the size of two side-by-side iPad Pros when unfolded, and the company plans to release it around 2028.

Apple has been working on the foldable for a few years now, with the goal of creating a display of about 20 inches to appeal to customers who want to use as much screen as possible in their portable devices, Gurman wrote in the latest Power On newsletter.

According to Gurman, Apple's main goal is to avoid creases above the middle hinge of the screen when the device is in the open position. Even with this batch of foldable phones that Samsung is currently launching, the crease is still noticeable, and Samsung has been trying to remove the crease since the release of the groundbreaking Galaxy Fold device in 2019, but without success.

In contrast, Apple wants its foldable iPad to look like "a full piece of glass." It's unclear if this goal will be achieved, but the company is said to have made progress.

As for what kind of operating system the foldable iPad will run, he admitted that it is not yet clear.

Gurman said that much of Apple's work on foldables is focused on "high-end" 20-inch devices, but he insisted that Apple will continue to explore the long-rumored foldable iPhone concept.
